Uninstall the Bevel Gear Rating Suite ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Install the Bevel Gear Rating Suite: Before installing the program, it is recommended that you close all other running applications. If you have previously installed this program, it is recommended that you uninstall it (see Section 6) before reinstalling the program. Install the Bevel Gear Rating Suite by inserting the distributed CD into your CD-ROM drive, the setup menu should display automatically. Click on "Install Bevel Gear Rating Suite" menu item to initiate program installation. Follow the screen instructions to complete the installation procedure. If the setup program detects that any of the system files required by the program are not up to date, then you must let it install the newer version of the file and restart the computer before the installation can complete. For Windows NT or other systems that require login, you must be logged in as an administrator for this procedure. If the setup program detects that any of the system files included with the program are not as up to date as those on the computer, it will ask if you want to keep the existing files. It is recommended that the newer file be kept. If the Setup Menu does not appear after inserting the CD, see Trouble Shooting (Section 5) for help. ------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Requirements: Hardware: a) CD-ROM drive b) Hard disk drive with at least 12 MB free disk space c) Display with minimum resolution 800x600 d) Printer (optional) Operating system a) This software has been tested on Windows 98, NT 4.0, 2000 and XP Software a) Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or later version (for displaying on-line help file) b) Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or later version (an Acrobat Reader setup file is included on the CD) ------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. View AGMA Standards (if included): The Bevel Gear Rating Suite CD includes ANSI/AGMA 2003, ANSI/AGMA 2005, and a selection of related standards. You can view these standards using Acrobat Reader. a) Insert the Bevel Gear Rating Suite CD into CD-ROM drive. The Bevel Gear Rating Suite Setup Menu will display. b) Click on View AGMA Standards menu item to display View AGMA Standards Window c) Click on the file name of the standard (in the listbox) to display the title and year published. d) Click on View Standard to display the selected standard. You can also double click on a file name to display it. e) Repeat steps c) and d) to display additional standards. f) After finishing viewing standards, click on the Exit button to quit. Notes: 1) Exit will not close Acrobat Reader. You must close it separately. 2) In steps c) and d), you can use the Up and Down keys to select a standard and press the Enter key to display it. ------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Install Acrobat Reader Click on Install Acrobat Reader to install the free Acrobat Reader. This version of Acrobat Reader was current when this CD was released. The Adobe web site; http://www.adobe.com has information on the current version of Acrobat Reader, and at this time allows free downloads. ------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. Trouble Shooting: a) Setup problem: After inserting CD, if the Bevel Gear Rating Suite Setup Menu does not display: The AutoPlay feature of Windows program may have been disabled. You can enable AutoPlay so that the Setup Menu will display automatically, or work around this problem by executing the startup program, Autorun.exe (located in the root directory of this CD), manually to display the Setup Menu. b) Error message: Could not find Acrobat External Window Handler: This error message indicates that Acrobat Reader may not be installed on your system. Run Acrobat Reader installer (see 4). c) Error message: Windows cannot find AcroXXX.exe: This error message indicates that Acrobat Reader may not be installed on your system, or the PDF file type is not associated to the Acrobate Reader application. Run Acrobat Reader installer (see 4). Refer to the Window Help topic, associating file types with programs, if you suspect there might be a file association problem for PDF file type. d) Help files: Help file loads, but the viewing pane contains an error message reading "Action cancelled": The help file needs to be unblocked. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the installation location of the Bevel Gear Rating Suite. Typically, this is "C:\Program Files\AGMA Bevel Gear Rating Suite". Right-click on the file named "BGRSHelp.chm" and select the option named "Properties". On the tab named "General", click on the button labeled "Unblock". Click on "OK" to close the window. ------------------------------------------------------------------- 6. Uninstall the Bevel Gear Rating Suite: Use Windows Add/Remove Program icon in Windows Control Panel to uninstall the software. Please note that the uninstall operation does not remove input data files that you created or some output text files generated by the program.
