Political Outlook for November, 2012
Charlie Cook, Editor and Publisher, Cook Political ReportCharlie Cook
Charlie Cook is another returning favorite to the AGMA/ABMA meeting. He will have his pulse completely focused on the 2012 presidential election and other key races. By March, 2012 the front runner Republican candidates will have changed several times; the battle lines will be formed; and the race will be in full swing. No one can deny the fact that the 2012 election will be truly historic.

When Charlie Cook makes a pronouncement based on his analysis of the political scene in America, people who want to be “in the know” sit up and listen. For more than two decades he has been Washington’s most trusted – and most accurate – voice on all things political, whether it’s the outcome of a Congressional, gubernatorial, or presidential election.

Cook’s expertise has been featured on the ABC, CBS, Good Morning America, The Today Show, Nightline, Meet the Press, and This Week. Cook founded the Cook Political Report in 1984, and became a twice-weekly columnist for Roll Call, Capitol Hill’s premier newspaper, before joining the National Journal Group in 1988. Cook has also been an election night analyst for CNN and CBS News and for every presidential election since 1994 for NBC News.

PROGRAM DETAILS

2012 is pivotal year filled with the volatility of domestic politics and the international economy culminating with the Presidential election next November. The United States along with the global economy, continues to be challenging and confusing, but critically important and relevant to our lives. At every turn, change continues to dominate our daily life. And as much as we try to predict and plan for the future, circumstances and eventualities often create a different path.

2012 will come and go; change will be inevitable and the past will be further away. As we look toward the centennial celebration of AGMA in 2016 and ABMA in 2017, it may be prudent to look backward and see how we got here.

1912 – one hundred years ago, the world was indeed a different arena. AGMA and ABMA did not exist, but the world was changing and evolving toward the one we recognize today. In 1912, the Republic of China was established; the world expanded with the discovery of the South Pole; and the United States added its 47th and 48th states. The first eastbound U.S. transcendental flight was successful; the first U.S. diesel submarine was commissioned; electric cars were the new rage; and the world mourned the loss of the HMS Titanic.

President Wilson was elected. Our country welcomed millions of recent immigrants, who became assimilated into the backbone of the social and economic change known as the Second Industrial Revolution. Companies were expanding; products were improving and becoming integrated into our daily lives. Technology was in its infancy; the world was shrinking but evolving into the one that today sustains our businesses.

In 1912 it was impossible to imagine the world we currently operate in, where e-mail and the Internet have made the world a much smaller place, and where the pace of innovation changes our professional and personal lives regularly. How do we prepare ourselves for the changes ahead?

Join your AGMA and ABMA industry colleagues next March as together we explore the volatility of the future; the partnerships pas and present; and the political climate that surrounds the 2012 election. Explore how all of this impacts you personally as an industry leader and also your company’s bottom line.
