A Must-See Performance

Saturday Night – Putting the ‘Mock’ in Democracy
For 2012, the Saturday evening Annual Meeting event will be redesigned and include live entertainment, direct from the power seat of Washington, DC. Following dinner, you, your colleagues and guests will be rolling in the aisle as you enjoy the Capitol Steps who perform “R” rated satier. No politician or foible is sacred here or off limits! This will be a fun night of hilarity poking fun at presidential politics, international relations, and everyday life.

This group puts the “mock” in democracy. They perform quips and parodies highlighting the diverse and controversial group of Republican nominees; the debt crisis in Europe and whatever current faux pas that is a scandal or headline. This group has a whole stack of material that is ever changing, but always fresh and FUNNY.

The Capitol Steps began as a group of Senate staffers who set out in 1981 to satirize the very people and places that employed them. They began as entertainment for a Christmas party. Their first idea was to stage a nativity play, but in the whole of Congress they couldn’t find three wise men or a virgin! Instead, they decided to dig into the headlines of the day, and they created song parodies and skits which conveyed a special brand of satirical humor. After 30 years they have not stopped, nor have they had to look far for material.

Since 1981, many of the Steps quit their day jobs and today perform weekly in Washington, DC and also throughout the country. They have recorded over 30 albums, including their latest, Desperate Housemembers. They’ve been featured on NBC, CBS, ABC, and PBS, and can be heard four times a year on National Public Radio stations nationwide during their Politics Takes a Holiday radio specials.

This is a “can’t miss” night of good food, camaraderie, and entertainment that will have you in stitches. Check out a snippet of the Capitol Steps on their website and you will agree that this is definitely worth the trip to the Annual Meeting.
