GOLF
This year’s AGMA/ABMA Tournament will take place on Friday afternoon, March 16th at the Hyatt Coconut Point’s Raptor Bay Golf Course. This Raymond Floyd designed 18-hole course was the first course in history to receive the Audubon Society’s International Gold Signature Sanctuary Certification, which honored the course’s commitment to environmental preservation and sustainable practices.
Each hole was carefully crafted to blend with the environment, leaving a beautiful course with natural surroundings. Under the guidance of Audubon International, they have developed an ecological design that preserved the most valuable habitats on site and restored nearly 25 acres of wetlands. Since there are no residential sites on the property, the natural surroundings encourage the appearance of protected wild creatures including the American bald eagle, great blue herons, snowy egrets and even the very shy whooping crane.
The Annual AGMA/ABMA Golf Tournament is a fabulous occasion for networking with your peers in a very relaxed and enjoyable environment. Golf is an optional event with an additional fee of $200. This includes greens fees, cart fees, range balls prior to the tournament, box lunch, bag transfer and short trolley ride to the course. Since the tournament is a mixed scramble team format, players of all levels, including ones who have never played, enjoy themselves. This is all about having FUN. Spouses and guests are encouraged and welcome to join the tournament.
In order to group participants in teams, please include your handicap or average score along with your golf registration
Raptor Bay is offering sets of Tailor-made clubs for rent, for an additional fee of $70. When you reserve a set of clubs, indicate your choice of men’s or women’s and left or right handed clubs. Your rented clubs will be on your cart when you arrive at the tournament.
The AGMA Foundation will be selling strings and mulligans which will be used during Friday’s Tournament. You can purchase these on Thursday, March 15, and Friday morning, prior to the tournament.
Friday Night – Irish Eyes are Smiling
Since everyone is IRISH on St. Patrick’s Day, you are all invited to celebrate a day early on Friday, March 16th with traditional pub food, pints, singing and music. With the help of an Irish folk group, we will turn the ballroom into an Irish pub and have you on your feet dancing a jig and singing along. Because it is St. Patrick’s Day, the dress code will be GREEN and nothing but GREEN attire.
Perhaps the luck of the Irish will be with you and you will win raffle prizes and live auction items. Fundraising for the evening will benefit the AGMA Foundation.
Saturday Afternoon – Batter Up
This spring, the new Boston Red Sox Jetblue Park at Fenway South will open in Ft. Myers as the Spring Training facility for the Red Sox. The new ballpark is located wihtin the 106 acre training and development center close to the Hyatt at Coconut Point. The new facility opens in time for the centennial anniversary of the Red Sox and features a replica of the Boston Fenway Park’s Green Monster.
Because of demand, AGMA has secured a limited number of tickets for the afternoon game on Saturday, March 17, 2012. The Boston Red Sox will be playing the Baltimore Orioles. Tickets have SOLD OUT for this event.
Saturday Night – Putting the ‘Mock’ in Democracy
For 2012, the Saturday evening Annual Meeting event will be redesigned and include live entertainment, direct from the power seat of Washington, DC. Following dinner, you, your colleagues and guests will be rolling in the aisle as you enjoy the Capitol Steps who perform “R” rated satier. No politician or foible is sacred here or off limits! This will be a fun night of hilarity poking fun at presidential politics, international relations, and everyday life.
This group puts the “mock” in democracy. They perform quips and parodies highlighting the diverse and controversial group of Republican nominees; the debt crisis in Europe and whatever current faux pas that is a scandal or headline. This group has a whole stack of material that is ever changing, but always fresh and FUNNY.
The Capitol Steps began as a group of Senate staffers who set out in 1981 to satirize the very people and places that employed them. They began as entertainment for a Christmas party. Their first idea was to stage a nativity play, but in the whole of Congress they couldn’t find three wise men or a virgin! Instead, they decided to dig into the headlines of the day, and they created song parodies and skits which conveyed a special brand of satirical humor. After 30 years they have not stopped, nor have they had to look far for material.
Since 1981, many of the Steps quit their day jobs and today perform weekly in Washington, DC and also throughout the country. They have recorded over 30 albums, including their latest, Desperate Housemembers. They’ve been featured on NBC, CBS, ABC, and PBS, and can be heard four times a year on National Public Radio stations nationwide during their Politics Takes a Holiday radio specials.
This is a “can’t miss” night of good food, camaraderie, and entertainment that will have you in stitches. Check out a snippet of the Capitol Steps on their website and you will agree that this is definitely worth the trip to the Annual Meeting.
