A Practical Approach to Managing Gear Noise
“A Practical Approach for Managing Gear Noise” combines light theory with a heathy dose of practical testing and simulation techniques used to manage gear noise. Topics focus on insights into the mechanisms for both whine and rattle, the two most common categories of gear โnoiseโ. The course presents clear explanations relating subjective evaluations of audible noise to objective actions, including troubleshooting and countermeasures, based on the instructorsโ direct experience in industry.

Robert White
Bob White PhD, PE is a Drivetrain NVH engineer with 37 years of experience. For 31 of those years he worked at John Deereโs Product Engineering Center in drivetrain development, touching nearly every transmission and axle produced by Deere. He specialized in making dynamic measurements and is especially known for his work in mitigating gear noise. He continues to do drivetrain problem solving through his company, White Noise, LLC. Brian K. Wilson
Brian K. Wilson, has 34 years of experience in the design, test and analysis of rotating machinery. His current position is Chief Engineer for McLaren Engineering, a subsidiary of Linamar, managing the Core Engineering department, including NVH CAE/testing of gearbox systems. Additional relevant experience includes Romax Technology, Inc. where he served as Chief Technology Officer; Ford Motor Company where he held the position of NVH Technical Specialist; and Founder of Advanced Drivetrain Engineering and Technology (ADET), a consulting/software company with a focus on gear technology. Wilsonโs key area of expertise is in rotating machinery dynamics, with an emphasis on gear noise, helping major OEMs worldwide to solve an assortment of drivetrain dynamics problems over the years. He currently serves on the AGMA Sound & Vibration Committee and on ASMEโs Power and Transmission Gearing Committee. Wilson holds a BSME from Michigan State University.
