In 2017, AGMA enters its 101st year with a new vision and mission, and four strategic objectives that will drive value for members over the next five years. This plan was developed over the past 18 months by AGMA’s Strategic Planning Committee and unanimously approved by the Board of Directors in November 2016. The new plan builds off the established, legacy AGMA value drivers and responds to current market conditions and focus areas that the Board of Directors felt were critical. Matt will outline the four topics of:

Session 1: AGMA and the Gear Market Report

As a principal for the Industry Practice at Global Insight, Tom is responsible for projections about the US industrial economy, including special aspects about output, prices, costs, wages, capacity levels and profit margins.  Tom authors sections in Global Insight’s, US Economic, Industry Analysis, and Cost Forecasting service publications.  He particularly gained expertise in the paper and lumber, construction, steel, agricultural, and service sectors.  Additional responsibilities include product line forecasting and consulting for clients that include many of the Fortune 500 and national trade associations.  He has over 20 years of experience in the economic forecasting and consulting industry.

Session 1: AGMA and the Gear Market Report

Matthew E. “Matt” Croson joined the American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA) as its seventh President in June 2016.  He oversees all operational aspects of the 100-year old, $4 million revenue, 12-person trade association dedicated to serving the needs of the $40 billion mechanical power transmission industry.  AGMA supports technical standards development, education and business management needs for its nearly-500 member companies.  

Croson joined AGMA after serving as President of the Adhesive and Sealant Council (ASC) from March of 2010 to June 2016.  During his tenure, ASC grew membership by 31% and revenues by 46%.  When he left ASC, the organization had 138 members and $2.8 million in revenue. Prior to that he spent 12 years at PMMI.

Alex West, Principal Analyst, Manufacturing Technology

Session 2: Industry 4.0

Alex West is a Principal Analyst for the Manufacturing Technology Group at IHS. With over fifteen years of experience, he has produced numerous syndicated and custom research projects, and consumer surveys, covering a range of electronics products in both the industrial and consumer space. This coverage has included analysis of competitive environments, business models, technology trends and end-user requirement in addition to traditional market sizing and forecasting.

Responsible for IHS’s coverage on Smart Manufacturing and Industrial Communications, Alex oversees research on a range of transformational manufacturing technologies including the Industrial Internet of Things / Industry 4.0, 3D printing, robotics, as well as developments in industrial communication (Fieldbus, Industrial Ethernet, and Wireless). Alex is a regular speaker at industry events, tradeshows and conferences worldwide.
