Job Description

Segment: Drive Systems - Lafayette

Function:      e-Mobility Project Engineer

Reports to:   Chief Engineer, Electrical Systems

Location:      Lafayette, Indiana

Effective:      Immediate

Position Summary:

The e-mobility Project Engineer will be responsible for the integration of electric drive components in existing and new vehicle applications

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop new products for e-mobility applications
  • Create engineering drawings and schematics
  • Write product specifications
  • Participate in and lead DFMEA efforts
  • Create product verification test plans working with test engineers
  • Perform failure analysis and/or troubleshooting
  • Work with customers, partners, and suppliers to arrive at effective technical solutions
  • Maintain expert level of product knowledge and application
  • Travel to project sites to perform technical presentations, start-up integration/prototypes
  • Respond to functional and technical elements of RFIs/RFPs
  • Listen, understand, and convey customer requirements to internal cross-functional global team members: engineering (design and manufacturing), program management, procurement, estimating, and quality          within ODS
  • Support business development activities by providing specification and design development support to prospective and existing customers with technical presentations and technical meetings

 

Knowledge & Skills Summary:

 

  • Understanding of DC, AC induction, and IPM motor operation and design
  • Understanding of low-voltage controller and high-voltage inverter operation
  • Understanding of energy storage systems including battery packs and ultracapacitors
  • Experience with high and low voltage electric vehicle propulsion systems
  • Familiar with microprocessor communication and integration
  • Experience with programming languages including C
  • Experience with MCAD software tools including SolidWorks
  • Experience using ECAD tools including Eagle
  • Ability to use MATLAB and Simulink software

 

Education and work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years experience in the design and vehicle integration of electric propulsion systems
  • 5+ years experience in the analysis of electric motors and controllers
