Hobbing Operator

Title: OCG – Hobbing Operator - Addison

 

Job Status: Non-Exempt/Regular/Full-Time

 

Reports Relationship:  Reporting to the Department Supervisor

Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED), Machine Tool Degree Desirable

Work Experience: Must have 1 year related experience/or training; or equivalent combination of education and   experience

Job Summary: Primary responsibilities are set up, operate, or tend lathe and turning machines to turn, bore, thread, form, or face metal or plastic materials, such as wire, rod, or bar stock.  

Personal Characteristics: The Hobber Operator B must be results oriented with the ability to pay strong attention to detail. The successful candidate need to be a pro-active self-starter that can work independently or with a team

Principal Area of Responsibility: As Hobbing Operator position is to:

                                           - Read blueprints, process sheets, specifications and instructions

                                           -preform preventive maintenance on all equipment as required

                                           -communicate effectively to supervisors and co-workers any deviations on blueprints, department routings                                              and shop travelers to specifications

                                           -setup manual hobblers

                                           -checks hobs/cutters, inserts, change sizes and tools as needed

                                           -responsible for accurate measurement to avoid waste of raw material

                                           -recognizes when blades or abrasive cutters are dull and need replacing

                                           -frequently does quality check for consistency of production

                                           -responsible for cleanliness and order in own work environment

                                           -verifies conformance of machined part to specifications using measuring instruments, such as micrometer,                                              calipers, and depth gauge

                                           -communicate any departmental problems to the supervisor

                                           -Preform quality checks daily and assist with duties as needed

  • ability to identify and correct conditions that affect employee safety
  • all other duties and activities as assigned or necessary

  • Resourceful, “hand-on”, “roll-up sleeves” approach to work while maintaining professionalism, positive demeanor and quality-focused manner.
