QuesTek Innovations LLC, located in Evanston, IL, a leader in the field of Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME), is seeking candidates for a Materials Applications Engineer to perform work related to application engineering and contract manufacturing management using QuesTek’s new high-performance alloys.


The primary responsibilities of this position include:


·       Experimental analysis in support of materials design, process optimization, and specification development

·       Manage projects oversee production of newly designed materials and alloys

·       Oversee projects related to manufacturing of specialized components, ensuring processes are followed and meet drawing requirements

·       Write proposals to pursue funding in applying QuesTek materials into Department of Defense and industry applications

·       Engineering support activities to commercialize new materials

·       Provide technical expertise in support of material sales and marketing efforts

·       Establish and build relationships with outside vendors, customers, and prospects

·       Travel to customer, funding agencies and vendors up to 30%

A strong understanding of physical metallurgy and good communication skills (both written and oral) are essential. Preferred candidates will have a B.S. or M.S degree in materials science and engineering, with knowledge and experience in:


·       Processing of materials (e.g. melting, hot/cold working, heat treating, additive manufacturing, and finishing processes such as coating/plating, superfinishing, peening, etc.)

·       Metallographic specimen preparation and analysis

·       Advanced microscopy characterization techniques (e.g. SEM, TEM, etc.)

·       Mechanical testing techniques and analysis (e.g. tensile, fracture toughness, fatigue, etc.)

·       Corrosion testing techniques and analysis (e.g. general corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, etc.)

·       Development of technical standards, industry specifications, and application engineering documents

·       A variety of alloy systems (e.g. steel, aluminum, titanium, copper, nickel, etc.)

·       Ability to read technical drawings and interpret manufacturing requirements



Compensation will be commensurate with experience and will include incentive programs and competitive benefits such as health insurance and a 401(k).
