Product Testing Engineer

Position:         Product Testing Engineer

Reports to:     Product Development Supervisor/Engineering Manager  


Division / Location: Gear Division, 3551 Bleams Rd New Hamburg, Ontario


Start Date:     Immediately





The person in this role will take a principle role in the design, development and manufacturing of gears, transmissions and other products produced by ODG



·         Degree in mechanical or mechatronic engineering or engineering technology

·         Basic electrical/electronic knowledge

·         Knowledge of C++

·         Proficient use of Autodesk Inventor



Design and Program Management

·         Manage new projects from initial start-up to successful launch on the shop floor using ODG’s business management system and tools

·          Work with customers to develop designs for new products and improvements to existing products

·         Assists in implementing new production cells and continuously improving existing processes in order to ensure long-term customer satisfaction, employee safety and welfare and business success

·         Performs testing of alternative processes and materials, implement improvements when identified

·         Researches projects, defines needs, develop project plans, locate resources and propose budgets and scheduled for the development of new manufacturing capacity

·         Create and edit BOM and routing entries in ERP

·         Assist sales team with quotations for new products

·         Learn and apply methods of gear measurement and analysis


Product Testing

·         Design fixtures and tooling required for lab testing using AutoDesk Inventor

·         Create software programs using C, C# and Labview to perform durability and diagnostic testing of products

·         Create design validation plans for customer products. Run tests, collect and analyze data and create reports for distribution

·         Trouble shoot problems and issues associated with assembled transmissions and gear boxes

·         Develops test plan estimates and other necessary information for quoting new products



·         Facilitates a team-based approach in developing and implementing projects.

·         Provides expertise in supporting daily plant activities

·         Works with other departments and teams in the division as necessary

·         In-depth learning or gear design and manufacturing methods, equipment and materials

·         Complies with company policies and procedures

·         Performs other tasks assigned by management.
