Production Manager

Title: OCG – Production Manager-Addison


Job Status: Non-Exempt/Regular/Full-Time


Reports Relationship: Reporting to the Vice President of Manufacturing


Direct Reports:  Expeditor and Clerk


Education:  Degree in Business Management, Engineering or related field with experience utilizing Critical Path Planning and Pert


Work Experience:  Should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in Manufacturing as an expeditor scheduler or machine shop foreman. Must have a strong business background and be computer literate in Engineering Design Programs, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.


Job Summary: Directs and coordinates the activities of the plant with overall responsibility for planning, production, productivity, quality, inventory control, and labor relations within the facility. Additionally, the Plant Manager provides coaching and direction to the Operations Supervisors to insure targets are met.

Personal Characteristics: Requires superior interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with a strong sense of urgency, with the ability to handle confidential information. Strong analytical, numerical and reasoning abilities. Results oriented with the ability to gather and disseminate accurate information and produce a quality work product. Requires the ability to make sound decisions and speak with confidence. Person must have very strong organizational and computer skills (Engineering Design Programs and Microsoft Office Suite) along with the ability to follow-up.

We are looking for someone assertive, passionate and diplomatic with the ability to achieve high quality results in an efficient and effective manner.  The successful candidate needs to be a pro-active self-started that can work independently.

Principal Area of Responsibility:  As Production Manager, this position is to:

- Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment for all associates

- Initiates and manages all environmental permits to comply with state and federal government regulations and requirements

- Responsible for training and development of direct reports

-Manages departmental budget, costs and expenditures

-Responsible for performing in-house ISO audit functions

-Reviews and recommends production schedules and work orders

-Ensures on-time delivery of customer orders; analyzes inventory levels to assure on-time shipments

-Works with engineering and maintenance to develop and execute long-range programs, to include capacity planning, equipment and strategic capital investments

-Coordinates planning and scheduling of maintenance to machines, facilities and equipment to minimalize downtime

-Directs Warehouse functions to ensure the shipment of all customer orders from inventory are consistent with the delivery goals and policies of the company

-Develops and executes improvement projects on time and within budget to achieve targeted savings

-All department processes and procedures documented and the appropriate individual(s) trained and cross-trained as necessary


Specific Duties:  Position must possess the following skills, qualifications and capabilities:


  • Manage and mentor team.
  • Interface with high profile business associates.
  • Prepare delivery schedules. Maintain 80-85% of time delivery to established schedule
  • Prepare machine loadings and schedules for key machines
  • Plan in advance for critical jobs by setting target dates, inspection requirements and material handling requirements
  • Audit dollar volume of shipments
  • Coordinate material flow with shop schedules
  • Layout and follow-up “fire checks”
  • Maintain inventory records for raw materials and finished products
  • Audit work in process and review machine maintenance problems. Review information with Superintendent, V.P. Manufacturing and Maintenance Supervisor
  • Review incoming orders with superintendent and chief inspector
  • Control both manufactured and purchased tooling. Establish systematic procedures to follow-up on both to insure coordination with machining operations
  • Control distribution of drawing revisions to the shop
  • Control flow of paperwork to shop floor
  • Monitor and control critical jobs. Insure visibility of rush jobs on critical jobs milestone chart. Generate a “hot list” for each production meeting.
  • Plan and direct work of subordinates
  • Create a 5-day rolling shipping projection for shipping and inspection departments
  • Keep Plant Superintendent and Vice President of Manufacturing informed of production “bottlenecks” and problems
  • Conduct weekly production meetings and periodic kick-off, update and brainstorm meetings for stalled or troubled jobs
  • Administer the plant suggestion program
  • Direct the taking of the annual and semi-annual physical inventories
  • Foster a team spirited environment
  • Independently solve problems and display conflict resolution skills
  • All other duties and activities as assigned or necessary to support the Operation

  • Resourceful, “hand-on”, “roll-up sleeves” approach to work while maintaining professionalism, positive demeanor and quality-focused manner.
  • Excellent time management skills.  Readily accessible, punctual and resourceful with the ability to work beyond the normal business hours, including weekends.
  • Seeks ways to develop self to increase knowledge base.
