FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Alexandria, VA- Dr. Mark Johnson, Director of the Advanced Manufacturing Office (AMO) in the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), is one of three keynote speakers who will be presenting at Gear Expo 2017, THE Drive Technology Show, in Columbus, Ohio, October 24-26. The AMO is focused on creating a fertile innovation environment for advanced manufacturing and enabling vigorous development in the United States of new energy-efficient manufacturing processes and materials technologies.
During Johnson’s tenure as the Program Director in the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E), he led initiatives to advance energy storage and critical materials, as well as projects in small business, advanced semiconductor, novel wind architectures, superconductors and electric machines. In addition, he has served as the Industry and Innovation Program Director for the Future Renewable Electric Energy Delivery and Management (FREEDM) Systems Center.
Johnson will be addressing the needs for the industry of the future and discussing key enabling technologies that will help achieve these goals. He will highlight ways in which Department of Energy and the AMO are helping support innovation in the field of advanced manufacturing while continuing stewardship for energy efficient manufacturing processes and materials technologies.
“If you think about the advanced manufacturing office within the DoE, where there is that intersection between manufacturing and energy, we are going to develop new technologies, support research development and really work together with industry to lower those barriers to get technology out to the marketplace for U.S. manufacturers,” Johnson said. “If we’re successful in that, we’ll wind up improving energy efficiency that winds up improving energy productivity, and then, manufacturers ultimately are more productive and wind up having a better bottom line.”
Johnson will appeal to many of the gear manufacturers that are trying to find the right balance between efficiency and cost. Gear Expo attendees come from a variety of industries around the world but the focus to make their operations more streamlined is the same across all industries. Learning about energy efficient options in manufacturing will allow businesses to evaluate their bottom line and improve future manufacturing processes.
Johnson will be speaking on Wednesday, October 25, from 1:00 pm–2:00 pm at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio.
