Roaming Inspector – Forest City Gear

Help to eliminate in-process scrap and poor-quality work with line inspection during production runs while educating operators and set-up technicians about basic inspection tools and knowledge.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Review data and revisions on job sheet, prints, and variable sheets
  • Compare new and previous 1st Articles to verify data
  • Check 1-3 parts at random machines in Shaping and Hobbing departments including finish, pin measurement, OD/ID, root size, runout, and length of cut)
  • As needed, assist with blank inspection from internal blanking and blank suppliers

Non-Essential Job Functions:

  • Inspection on all other operations as needed
  • Back-up inspection in the lab as workflow mandates

Environmental Conditions:

  • Noise intensity level exposed with this job Moderate


  • Ability to operate vari-roll testing fixtures
  • Ability to use optical comparator
  • Ability to use VInco Optical Dividing Machine
  • Skills with calipers, micrometers, and gages
  • Communication skills to train others as needed
  • Basic math & geometry skills
  • Basic materials knowledge
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to create tooth/space alignment layouts

Education & Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years inspection experience in gear manufacturing OR 10 years inspection experience with 1 year in gear-specific inspection
