About the peer review process

All technical papers presented at MPMA’s Fall Technical Meeting undergo a thorough review process to ensure their quality and relevance to the MPMA audience. This process is coordinated by MPMA staff and the members of the Technical Division Executive Committee (TDEC), who solicit the assistance of three people to review every paper.

What is a peer reviewer?

A peer reviewer is a volunteer—usually a professional in the field of gear or bearing manufacturing or research—that is knowledgeable in the technical area of the paper. Reviewers can be currently active in the field or retired.

What does a peer reviewer do?

Through MPMA’s online portal Cadmium (conferenceharvester.com), peer reviewers will read assigned paper(s), critique, and provide suggestions to the author(s) for consideration in the final published paper. The peer reviewer should focus on the technical aspects/ accuracy of the draft contents.

What should you expect?

  • After the drafts of all 2026 FTM papers have been submitted, Review Coordinators will go over the list of peer review volunteers and select reviewers for each paper. These selections are based on the subject matter of this year’s FTM sessions and the topics each potential reviewer volunteered to review.
  • MPMA will contact selected reviewers via email in early May to confirm that the volunteers can review certain papers on the review schedule below.
  • The review process is done online through MPMA’s online portal Cadmium; selected reviewers will be sent an email in late May/early June with instructions on how to log in and complete their reviews through the website.
  • Each peer reviewer will read his/her assigned paper(s).
  • Reviewers will make comments through the online portal, regarding certain criteria. Reviewers will also have the option to mark up the draft via 1) the Microsoft Word “Track Changes” feature or 2) via a printed/marked-up PDF. The reviewer can then upload the mark-up to the online system.

Further info:

  • Papers are usually between about 5 and 25 pages;
  • You can choose your preferred subject area(s) of interest to review;
  • A guide for peer reviewers will be provided.
