RFI 13-1: Clause 8.1 of ANSI/AGMA 6000-B9, Specification for Measurement of Linear Vibration on Gear Units

Question: Request for interpretation/clarification of ANSI/AGMA 6000-B96 Section 8.1

โ€œThe recommended maximum allowable levels of housing vibration in terms of displacement, velocity, and acceleration are given in figures 1 through 3โ€ฆ Furthermore several components of vibration at different frequencies may acceptably exist at the same time, each at the allowable limit for that frequency as determined from the curvesโ€ฆโ€

Based on the above criteria it would appear that the maximum tone in velocity (peak) at a discrete frequency determines whether the gear meets the limit criteria in figure 2.  Please confirm this.

Resolution:

The maximum amplitude in velocity (peak) at a discrete rather than overall frequency is used to determine whether the gear meets the limit criteria in figure 2.
