RFI 13-1: Clause 8.1 of ANSI/AGMA 6000-B9, Specification for Measurement of Linear Vibration on Gear Units

Question: Request for interpretation/clarification of ANSI/AGMA 6000-B96 Section 8.1

“The recommended maximum allowable levels of housing vibration in terms of displacement, velocity, and acceleration are given in figures 1 through 3… Furthermore several components of vibration at different frequencies may acceptably exist at the same time, each at the allowable limit for that frequency as determined from the curves…”

Based on the above criteria it would appear that the maximum tone in velocity (peak) at a discrete frequency determines whether the gear meets the limit criteria in figure 2.  Please confirm this.

Resolution:

The maximum amplitude in velocity (peak) at a discrete rather than overall frequency is used to determine whether the gear meets the limit criteria in figure 2.
